Ravenna Dreams came about when the New England Mosaic Society challenged folks to make a mosaic about what they where missing during the pandemic. I was missing traveling to Italy.
Ravenna dreams is a 24”x24” mixed media of mosaic and encaustic wax.
The glass is Italian smalti and 24k gold smalti. There is a fabric called encaustiflex that I was able to place on my hot plate so I could melt a wax called ancient gold on top of it to give it the feel of Gold leaf. The stars in the wax field are inlayed. I carved the shapes into the blue field of wax and added the colors I wanted overtop then scraped it back to the blue.
