Stained glass mosaic
In the Gallo-Roman religion, the Goddess, Epona, was the protector of horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules—as well as a goddess of fertility. She was often pictured sitting, flanked by horses and a foal who would eat from a cornucopia of corn and apples she offered them. In addition, Epona and her horses might also have been leaders of the soul in the after-life ride. While this legend is an ancient one, I felt its inclusion in a series of horses in history (which I am currently creating) was more than appropriate and sympathetic to today’s concern for animal welfare.
