Miriam
Italian glass smalti, marble, granite, beads, gold bracelet jewelry findings, semi-precious stones ?

After saving her brother, Moses, from certain death when the Egyptians ordered the drowning of Hebrew baby boys, Miriam became the leader of the Hebrew women when they and their families escaped from Egypt. After successfully crossing the biblical Red Sea, they sang the Song of Miriam—a remnant of a victory song and one of the few poems that survive from the ancient world. Their swaying, dance-like movements were accompanied by the metallic jingle of tambourines. The image of Miriam provided an irresistible subject to portray with mosaic tesserae by utilizing the natural andamento of her swirling robe and the parting sea to depict her celebration.
